They’re Back! Florida Museum of Photographic Arts opens its doors in Ybor City

The Ybor City Chamber of Commerce welcomed the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts to the historic district by sponsoring a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday. The museum officially opened on September 14 after an eight-month hiatus as they moved from their former location downtown. The event, celebrated with Mayor Jane Castor helping to cut the ribbon, marks a new beginning for FMOPA. It is part of a resurgence of interest in establishing Ybor City as a hub for the arts and artists. Their gallery is located in the heart of the movement following developer Daryl Shaw’s purchase and rehabilitation of the former Kress building and its annex in the 1600 block of 7th Ave. Along with a full schedule of upcoming exhibits, the museum will continue its outreach to the community with at risk youth, and expend its education offerings. The current exhibit, Icons of Black & White, is a must-see!
