Chase Parker- Mixed media visual artist
I met Chase in his studio during an Ybor City Arts Walk. He has a beautiful space in the new Kress Contemporary building, a recently renovated block on 7th Avenue. The studio is stunning, with high ceilings, paneled walls, and his tools and art hanging everywhere. His female-form dimensional art is colorful and inspiring. I knew it would make for a fantastic environment for a photo.
I spoke to him about making a portrait and returned to scout the location. He showed me this paint booth he uses to create his work. I knew we had to get it in a shot, but I wasn’t sure how. On shoot day, he was very helpful in making the shot right and assisted in moving things around to create the perfect studio look. I can work with this kind of talent all day long! We got several shots of him in the studio that came out great. Then, we moved to this booth. The silver lining inside was reflective, and I was sure it wouldn’t take much light to make it dazzle. To create this shot, I placed one light blue gelled speed light on the floor and a gridded strobe with a ¼ CTO gel firing through the back window to create a contrast in white balance and give rim light. I asked him to wear his respirator for drama and intrigue in the shot.
